Captive
Spirit
Scripture
tells us that Satan intends not only to kill and destroy,
but to steal as well. What is it that he wants? As
believers, our salvation cannot be stolen from us: we are
redeemed. But when we refuse to risk life, when we flee
or turn away from it, Satan can step in to imprison our
spirits, stealing our capacity to function in the
fullness of life.
Captive spirit is a condition related to but more serious
than that of a slumbering spirit. Rather than being
wakened to life captive, or imprisoned spirits must be
set free from powers of darkness. Discernment is needed.
The gifts of knowledge and perception and a careful
observation of the symptoms plaguing the individual are
required. In this lesson, we will explore those symptoms
and discuss helps for healing the person with a captive
spirit.
'The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I have come
that they may have 1ife, and have it to the full
"John 10:10
This is a condition that occurs when an individual who
has been wounded turns away from life, or becomes
spiritually rebellious. We lock our selves in fleshly
strongholds, unable to function; often demons take
advantage.
A slumbering spirit does not know that it slumbers, but a
captive spirit knows that there is more or that they
possess gifts and talents that are not being realized and
they don't know why they can't make it happen. There is
frustration and torment associated with a captive spirit.
There are similarities to both a slumbering and captive
spirit. The following questions will give you better
insight
o Do you feel hollow, empty or vacant, as though
something is missing?
Lamentations 3:6-9
o Do you feel alone, lonely, separate, even when with
companions? Psalms 88:18
o
Do you ever feel persecuted, afflicted or tormented, even
when no one is bothering or hurting you? Psalms 88:15
o Do you sense that you have talents, powers and energies
inside that you cannot reach, as though they are locked
away? Psalms 88:14
o Is marital sex glorious and joyful, or just something
that you do?
Healing
the wounds that lead to captivity
Older children have ways of coping without detaching from
life. They express feelings verbally, draw boundaries,
say "NO", state an opinion, or even fight back.
Infants, however, can only react to abuse or neglect by
refusing to bond, or by "disconnecting". This
disconnecting can become a practiced response to
continued abuse, or neglect. Look for inner vows not to
feel, not to need, not to express, and not to be. The
absolute extreme to the disconnecting could result in
multiple personality disorder,
Most captivity begins in infancy, but sometimes in later
childhood and even adulthood. A powerful spiritual
rebellion would have to take place for adulthood
captivity. Deep and serious thoughts of suicide, or death
wish would have to be in place. Final healing usually
comes alter a series of "reconnections". The
client must repent of the disconnections made from life.
If you are sensing in your spirit that there is a captive
spirit, seek the Lord for The when and the whereabouts of
the captive spirit. Ask the Lord to reveal the condition
and the place of imprisonment of the captive spirit. Ask
questions of the client for the confirmation of the
condition. Help the client understand the conditions that
may have created withdrawal and rebellion.
Confession and repentance
Have the client confess and repent for withdrawing from
life, for this is rebellion against
God. He called him/her to life before the foundation of
the world. Ask the client to
declare Ms/her desire to be free. Repent for his/her
anger with God. He did not imprison
Him/her.
Forgiveness
Enable the client to ask for, give, and receive
forgiveness in prayer.
Prayer
Ask the Lord to move into the area of imprisonment and
free the person's spirit. Ask the Lard to destroy the
prison. Pray hiding prayers over the person. Ask God to
minister to the person's spiritual condition: emaciation,
slumbering, etc. Pray for strength, and the willingness
to choose life, Ask the Lord to resurrect gifts, talents,
energy, and to restore the person's birthright and
inheritance.
Support
Give the person home work that will help him/her to
continue to choose life daily. Have them knock down those
walls that he/she erected to keep everyone out and
him/her in. Have he/she ask God to help him/her knock
down every wall, and have him/her crush every vow, and
take every habit pattern, and structure of hiding and put
them to death on the cross. Have him/her tell the Lord
that he/she is ready to risk being loved and loving. Have
him/her say that he/she is willing to risk the pain of
rejection, because he/she knows that the lord will carry
him/her through it all. Have him/her say, "I choose
life! I choose life! I choose life! In Jesus' Holy name.

OLD
TESTAMENT
Psalm 28:1
-To you I call 0 Lord my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to
me, For if you remain silent, I will be like those who
have gone down to the pit.
Psalm 30:2-3 -0 Lord my God, I called to you for help and
you healed me. 0 Lord, you brought me up from the grave;
you spared me from going down into the pit.
Psalm 40:1-3 - I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned
to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy
pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in
my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and
fear and put their trust in the Lord,
Psalm 88:1-8 -0 Lord, the God who saves me, day and night
I cry out before you. May my prayer come before you; turn
your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of trouble and my
life draws near the grave. I am counted among those who
go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. I
am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the
grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from
your care. You have put me in the lowest pit, in the
darkest depths. Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have
overwhelmed me with all your waves. You have taken from
me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape.
Psalm 88:15 - From my youth I have been afflicted and
close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in
despair.
Psalm 88:18 - You have taken my companion and loved ones
from me; the darkness is my closest friend.
Isaiah 42:20-22 - [The Lord speaking] 'You have seen many
things, but have paid no attention; your ears are open,
but you hear nothing." It pleased the Lord for the
sake of his righteousness to make his law great and
glorious. But this is a people plundered and looted, all
of them trapped in pits or hidden away in prisons. They
have become plunder, with no one to rescue them; they
have been made loot, with no one to say, "Send them
back.'
Lamentations 3:6-9 - He has made me dwell in darkness
like those long dead. He has walled me in so I cannot
escape; he has weighed me down with chains. Even when I
call out or cry for help, he shuts out my prayer. He has
barred my way with blocks of stone; he has made my paths
crooked.
NEW TESTAMENT
John 10:10 - "The thief comes only to steal and kill
and destroy; I have come that they may have Life, and
have it to the full."
II Corinthians 4:4 - The god of this age has blinded the
minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light
of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of
God.
